Hi all,
I'm going to be taking some hives off of an old friend's hands this week. I think one hive may have wax moths. What would be a quick way to rid the hive of this pest? I was thinking of just doing a shake down. Then cleaning the hive and freezing the frames. What do you think?

Hi BB -
This sounds like a good idea to me, especially since you avoid the use of chemicals.

You can freeze the frames, but I take the foundation off, clean very well, and hose them off. It works for me fine, and I had a nasty case of wax worms, after the year I took off.

I had three boxes with moths this year and it was a bigmess. I closed all three in plastic bags andsuffocated the buggers before I cleaned up,that stopped thedammage as I cycled stuff in and out of the freezer.
