We didn`t get a package, we bought a nuc of
4 frames with a queen. My bee man said that these are like an establised colony. So,
do I need to be feeding them? I don`t think
he said to, but I was trying to asorb alot of information. Thanks for any help you can give me!!
Feeding for Nucs is good if you have no frames of honey or pollen and you have no bloom in your location.
It is more important for package bees installed on foundation because they have to catch up.
On my new bees I feed 1:1 Syrup, and a pollen supplement because they are on foundation and I want them to build up quickly before the main flow. Not that I am expecting honey from them this year. My intent is to winter a strong viable hive. Anything I get off these bees will be considered a bonus.
If you feed them weak syrup (I use 2kg sugar in a gallon feeder bucket) steadily through the active season, then they'll keep drawing comb, which is what you want as that will enable them to get off to a good start next spring.
