This is what Fondant looks like, (Baker's Fondant).

When beekeepers talk about "fondant" they're not referring to some small can of flavored/colored cake material. When purchased, a 50 pound block looks like this:



The list of ingredients is fairly short:



If made at home it looks something like this:



Note: Fondant is not granular in texture...

The best way to cut it is with a clean flat edge garden spade,with the block of fondant on a large piece of cardboard on the floor. Just slice off a piece of 5-10# and bag it in a plastic bag .Slice off a 1-2# strip of the bag before you put it over the cluster/top bars. This keeps it from getting rock hard and easier for the bees to eat.
This came from Murray Macgregor in Ireland via Bee-L a few years back. Beats cutting it with a knife or hive tool in the beeyard.
