I am new to BeeSource and have seen several posts from you about two queen hives. If there is a better method or place to ask this question, please let me know. Have you successfully raised and mated queens in one half of a two queen hive when the other half is queenright if they both share a super above a queen excluder? It seems to me that some say they do it naturally and others say a virgin queen won't mate even is she hatches.

Hi Lauri! I just saw your thread when talking about whether or not to have openings in plasticell foundation. I was fascinated by your pictures!!!! I have a question for you...why do you use half of a sheet and allow them to build their own comb on the sides? Is this a way to get comb honey?

I am still learning, this is my second year and I am adding hives 3&4 this spring. Again, I thought that was the coolest thing I have seen yet and would love to know more!

Hi Lauri, I saw a post of yours with a screen on the top, looked like it was used in place of a inner cover, but was above the top frames. The picture looked like you just removed the outer cover. I'm curious what that screen is for. are you replacing the inner cover with it. I've been looking for a way to stop smashing bees when I put the top back on. I was thinking I could slip the screen on, it's light, I can see thru it, not smash any bees and then put the top on while the screen is keeping the bees off the lip.
Love your posts and Love your hives. Everything you do is top shelf!
    Thanks,
    Robbin

Sure. 25# cane sugar, 1 quart cider vinegar, about 1/2 tsp electrolyte mix, splash of scent like lemongrass oi, Mann Lake pro health or othe ressential oil of choice. mix a little at a time in a 5 gallon bucket until the sugar is moist. Dump in a shallow pan and roll out and compress with rolling pin. You can sprinkle with Beepro on top, but not on the bottom as it gets gunky and just stays stuck to the pan. Be sure to cut into the size bricks you want while it is soft. Let it dry for about a week in a dry place-or put in a food dehydrator overnight about 70 degrees. I'll write a thread about winterizing hives and feeding soon.

Hey Lauri any chance you can share your sugar brick recipe? ;-). I made up your pollen patty recipe the other day and all my overwintering nucs are devouring it! Thanks. I know the thread got crazy but it's fun to read all the contention. I think some folks get too wrapped around the axle if you know what I mean.

Lauri, I really like the finish or lack of finish on your hives. What do you do to get them to look so rustic? They're beautiful!

Hi Lauri. I've been looking at some of the pictures and info you posed about queen rearing and I am jazzed about trying my hand at it. I'm located near Port Angeles (about 600 feet elevation), which I believe would have a climate pretty similar to Roy's. Anyway, just touching bases and looking forward to engaging in the forum.

    Lauri:

I'm almost 73 years old, and I got my first bee hives last April. For the past year, I have read books and internet forums learning as much as possible about bees. Looking at your website, I am impressed with the neatness of your total operation. I am also impressed with your innovative ideas. I am going to use your corndog sticks concept. Thanks for sharing your ideas. Have a nice day.

Hi Lauri I am new to the bee forum. I will be getting my first bees next month. I am very excited but sometimes discouraged due
to the mite problems for bees. It seems to be serious and most treatments are harsh on the bees. Anyway. I am I also a "girl" hunter that's a great buck you have in your photo.
It makes mine look puny :) Would love to come to your for bee questions. My first would be what do you do for mites.????
