Thanks for the time Vance I apreciate it. So we had a kit we bought a few years ago for cider. A couple buckets a special lid and some other stuff. Wife just went and got a hydrometer and airlock and I think your right the honey seems fine but we'll use it for mead for now . I read your posts on washing the cappings to late but next year for sure the best way to use the clean up water! So I love sparkling wine but I read it's hard to do and maybe too hard for a beginer? Any way if you don't mind we would love a couple of versions of your mead. My wife's from great falls her parents names are Ronnie and patsy sowers they are around your age? Ronnie was a fireman there until he retired and patsy was at the post office. Anyway thanks again and we will drop some off for you after it's done and you can tell us what we did wrong. Thanks again charlie and Amy

How many Vance G's can there be in the world? I worked with a very good guy named Vance G in Northern California at a place called... crap.. some kind of consulting firm and organic farm. I forget the name but it was for a lady named Gaytan and a guy called Allen. Wouldnt happen to be you would it?

    Hi Vance,

It has been warm here too - near 60F today. I am fighting the urge to peak into a couple of hives. It is always better to leave them alone for as long as you can. I would like to see some moisture, but if the cold can stay away, we might have a nice, and more importantly, early spring.

As for queen rearing and drones - around here, you can have drones early, but you don't want your queen to breed with them - they are from the commercial hives, so generally they are Italians with a healthy mix of Africanized genes. That is the biggest reason that I don't bother intentionally raising queens. You just can't get away from them - the commercial hives are everywhere. By the time any hives that I would want genetics from start throwing drones, it is so late in the year that I can't really use them.
