I have to treat them like any other Italian. Mite counts are a little lower on them but still need treating IMO. Don't have SHB up here so can't say. You might check with Kevin Jester. He has used them for a while and he's in FL so he sees the SHB regularly.

    Velbert,
Do Russians and Minnesota Hygienic make a good cross? I have both and I will not be able to stop them from breeding.

Several years back when the first Russians came out i had one and raised a new queen for every hive and they mated with my drones They were not anny meaner but were a nurvious type bee they would run on the combs and fly and about the time they got a hive body almost full of bee they would want to swarm but they have come a long way from this they are calmer and not near as swarmy

Velbert, why do I keep hearing that the Russians get mean if they are open bred with non-Russian bees? Is that true?

Do you have a single queen available for pickup? I got some bees out of a log the loggers tore up. No queen. A cell would work also. I'm at Shady, out from Mena.

one hive is doing well and the other is very very slow. They still havent filled out a single deep. Last insection had no capped brood and light on eggs and larvae. I guess ill just keep feeing them and see if they make it for winter.

Velbert, I represent a beekeeping club in Fayetteville, Ar. We are looking for 40-60 3# packages of bees for April-May, 2010. Could you supply this request? What would be the cost per package. Thank you, Jim Pickett
