    Hi Walt,

My name is Jeff Ellingwood, we met at an LACBA meeting last fall. Back then I had about 22 colonies. Now we have about 15 and 6 of them are very weak. We have fed them sugar syrup, dusted them for mites and use IPM bottom boards. An older friend beekeeper who has some equipment lying out in an unused warehouse asked me to remove some feral bees for him as the County was giving him grief about them and he couldn't get to it right away. I found 2 colonies that put our colonies to shame. One is 2 deeps full and the other is 3 deeps full and the bees are gentle! How can I get full strong colonies like this? These bees are better than ours without even trying. Their forage was the high desert all last summer, maybe some buckwheat but it was very dry. What can I do to get our bees to do this well? I just secured a good location down in the cajon pass where there are many eucalyptus, pepper trees and rosemary and other things blooming.
