deep to med.

I am thinking about making 2 bee hives with all med. boxes . My thought was to put a med brood box on top of a deep brood box and let the queen lay in it. After it is full of bees abd the hive is going good as a 2 box brood hive, split off the top med. and requeen it.
With that said , is having a hive with 2 med brood boxes better than 1 deep? Is that because there is more bees? Then is 2 deep brood even better? Is there something about 2 med making it better than 2 deep brood boxes? I still have 3-5 nucs to put in to 10 frame hives and thought i may try a med box on top after they fill the deep box. I want to grow 1/2 my bees the first year and get some honey from the other 1/2 .

I've gone to all mediums. I think it is more convenient. I don't like using queen excluders, so having all mediums helps me more versatile with moving frames around. If you think about it, three mediums is about the same as two deeps.

I think I'll use my deeps for bait hives. With our soft winter, I'm thinking it might be a good year for swarms.
