Hello everyone, I get my pakages Saturday and the
weather is calling for some pretty windy conditions.
So for that reason I was thinking about just putting the
queen in between the frames and then just setting the
package in and letting the bees come out on their own..

Or should I just wait until Sunday to install the packages..

Thanks BIll

Do it just the way you said and all will bee well.

Just as both you said, except with many multiple packages to hive, maybe someone can explain why a bunch of bee shaking is preferable.

Well I have seen multiple packages shook at the same time and the air would be full of bees that didnt know where to go (lots of drifting)

I was planning on using this method also this week. MY worry is that it is going to be in low 30's at night. Will the bees come out of cage and keep queen warm?

Yes the bees will leave the box and surround the queen. Be sure to remove the box in 2 days ot the bees will comb it in. It also helps to do any work on the hive when the highest temp for the day. Yes I have opened hives at 10 degrees to check stores and feed the bees but I did this quickly.

I just installed my first package on Sunday and used the "leave the box in the hive technique".
It worked great! Just remove the queen cage and wedge it between two frames (the wood part of the frame at the top) or put 2 nails in the sides of the cage and hang it. I did mine candy side up in case one of the workers died it wouldn't block the queen from getting out.
All the bees will come out of the package box so don't worry. Like others have said, in a day or two, remove the box quickly and then leave them for a week to get settled.
Good luck!

Just wondering how it went? In NC as well and was crazy windy here today, but sunny and in 60's. Found out from an email and voicemail that my queen would be here tomorrow instead of Thursday. Was originally scheduled for today, then changed to Thursday, then to tomorrow LOL! So anyway hope it went well for you, as I was out there making a split in all that wind as well!

That is how I do mine and not in the wind. Just easier on the bee's in my mind.

Hello everyone, everything went very good. For my first time..
The winds where just crazy strong here, but the bees didn't
seem to mind. I will go back in this afternoon and remove the
package box..
Thank you all for your help and advice..
