Like the United Nations effect of your hive bodies (different flags/nations). Did you put in different varieties of bees, also? :)

Yes they are, I got the Russians and Italians from packages and the other 2 were nucs and I didn't know what their nationality was. So I figured they might be a mix so I went with the Colonial flag of the old melting pot.

Jeez, that second photo with the fondant, at first I thought hey, someones taking pictures inside one of my hives! But I noticed a difference, I put my fondant over the inner cover hole surrounded by a 1 1/2 inch spacer. You look like you have your fondant sitting directly on your top bars with a spacer under your inner cover.
Nice photos.

Its alomst on top of the frames, I put a queen excluder on and place the foundant on top of that. That gives a small bee space between the foundant and the top of the frames. I also try and give a space of atleast 1" on all side so there can be some airflow through the hive. I use telescoping top and I found small 1/2"x1x1/8" thick pieces of wood that I glued at the corners of the top. That seems to raise the telescoping top just enough to get good airflow. I went in to winter with 4 and came out with 4.
