Just starting to plan a March trip to southern Arizona, looking for advice of any sort. Basic outline at this point is to fly to Phoenix, rent a 4x4 at the airport and drive/camp the Devil's Highway.

I know this is a little bit of a sore subject or stereo typing but make plans and be prepared to protect yourself if you should get caught out in the desert. 90% of the peaple are good but I have had some very weird encounters with people out in that desert. Rent a good ride and approach with caution or stay to known spots with other people. Not wanting to be gloomy just carefull.John

Yep, just read a piece from Nat. Geo. that painted a pretty gloomy picture.

As others have said...you need to have your wits about you in these areas. Remember that Phoenix is now the kidnapping capital for ransom kidnappings in the US and they have created a special kidnapping task force, the first of its kind in the US in that city.
Good luck...watch your top knot.
