because I can't haul stuff anymore. I occasionally need to haul garden stuff, bags of leaves for composting, or wood and other supplies for building stuff. I'm a total failure at backing an 18 ft boat trailer, but I'm thinking maybe I can manage something small, like maybe an 8-10 foot trailer for hauling stuff. Do any of you have recommendations on what kind of trailer I should be looking for? I would be pulling it with a Honda CRV (small SUV).

DF,
I hate to burst your bubble but if you have trouble with a 18' boat trailer you will have more trouble with a 8'-10' trailer. The farther the trailer wheels are from the hitch the easier it is to back up.:)

Have you shopped any prices yet? Make sure you buy from the mfg and not a retailer. There are a ton of them here in TX. I deal with almost all of them and can help ya out. I was ordering some parts for one of my customers today and ask them. They said 6x10 with a tailgate, pipe railing, treated lumber floor, new tires. $875.00 plus ttl. There are 4 mfg within 10 miles of me and they all owe me favors for the machines I have discounted to them. So let me know if you need me to strong arm for ya.

Beeslave- you did burst my bubble, but there's always a way around this problem. With a short trailer, I can go to HD and not have to back it up- just pull into a parking space that has an adjoining one that's clear. When I get my stuff home, I have a large turn-around area.:)

the difficulty of backing the boat trailer up greatly depends on if you have the boat on the trailer or not. no boat it is a real pain in the ---. because you cant tell where its headed until its to late. with a boat no big deal. if this is the case dont worry about backing up the new trailer. with a little practice in a area where you cant hurt anything you will be a pro in no time.

Thanks kwest. I'm sure I'll keep working at it until I get the hang of it. It's just a pita to be on the boat ramp, having to back up, go forward, back up again.... while all the boaters waiting to get into the launch area are
rolling their eyes.;)
