I have lots of good shallow wood frames, Rossman's have medium plastic foundation in their catalog, is it cost effective to cut this foundation, nail it into the wood frames, as far as I know there is no (small) one piece plastic one piece frame with foundation available, is there a reason for this? It is my understanding that I can run medium plastic foundation thru a table saw and use it in the shallow frames. If I put plastic foundation in wood frames will it withstand the extractor?
or
Do I continue using wax foundation with wire hooks)
or
Do I bite the bullet and buy new plastic medium one piece frames, I have some medium supers?
This summer I had one medium super that was almost too heavy for me to lift.

If the medium was almost too heavy to lift, the shallow is not that much lighter in weight. It just doesn't make much sense to me.

I bought some shallow plastic foundation from Permadent in South Dakota. It was many years ago and I'm not sure if he still sells it. It looked like medium that was cut down. If you want to cut it down, use a fine saw blade. I've cut some plastic foundation with a good blade but the teeth were just a little too coarse.

I don't think it's cost effective to buy a medium foundation only to cut it down and basically waste the extra. I'd just go with shallow wax to fit your shallow frames.

But if you want to cut it down to size, plastic foundation in wood frames works fine. Nail it in and you're good to go.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd stay away from shallow. It's just anothe size to mess with. I'd prefer to have everything be medium sized for my supers.
