I need a young queen now. I don't think this colony will survive. This hive was given to me, and I didn't realize it was that weak. Any information?

have you considered feeding first?

which is to suggest that there could be a whole list of problems a hive might encounter before you might wish to replace a queen.

Yes, I have. One of the problems I have had is that every time I have fed a weak hive, I have seen more robbing than you can believe, from my stronger hives. I will have to feed, but this hive need more help than just feeding.

This late in the year a combine would be considered in many circumstances. That said we just caught 56 queens yesterday.

I have not got one yet, but I found a man about 3 hours from here, that has queens, and plan to get one from him, as well as do some other things to help the hive. Thanks! I appreciate you checking.

if they are robing do the same thing back to them.

take a frame or so and give it to the weak hive.

We are consolidating our mating nucs into larger units for winter and this process generates surplus queens to be used or sold.

We are usually done with queens by early Sept. The queens I have now are ones that we left to lay as we married nucs in preparation for combining for winter. I had hoped to use the queens myself but it was such a lean honey year I felt I should not make any fall splits as we often do. They are really nice queens as they have been laying since late August/ early Sept. I call them survivor stock because they are grafted from proven colonies that perform well without miticide application. They are derived from a mixed ancestry, some being feral, Russian, SMR/VSH, and other hardy hygienic bees we could get our hands on. They range from black to fairly dark striped, some brownish leathery color, and almost no pure blonds.

We shipped 104 on Mon, I think I may have another 30 or 40 that need homes.
