View Full Version : Fructose pump
I am going to purchase a gas powered (5.5HP) fructose pump and noticed that both Mann Lake and Dadant sell them. Can anyone here describe the differences between the two pumps other than a big price difference?

what i do for a syrup pump is go to you local Tractor supply store and buy a 3 inch trash pump, or a two inch pacer pump, (the trash pump is heavier duty). they are not too bad of price i think the trash pump i got was 400$ still going strong after two years. and it will pump a gal of syrup through my 3/4 inch garden hose in under 10 seconds.

I was looking at trash pumps. How do you handle the back pressure on the hose between hives?
Thanks ST for the info. I just found out that the Mann Lake unit is basically a Chinese knock-off (Yamakoyo) of a Honda. I found what looks like the same unit without fittings and hoses for about $265 at

The reviews on Yamakoyo were generally good for all the OEM parts and not so good for aftermarket stuff. Since I already placed an order with Mann Lake I ended up paying about $900 ready to go. This seems like a lot but at least I can replace the core components for $265 if anything breaks. I could have gone a cheaper route but I need to feed my bees yesterday and just don't have the time needed to put stuff together right now.
One last thing - I placed my order with Erica at the main number and she was one of the nicest people I have ever ordered from.

i don't worry about it, some one told me it would be an issue but i have used it 3 years now and no problems i just run a heavy duty 3/4in garden hose from the pump to a gasoline dispenser type nozzle.
