I got a box of Global pollen patties, and put one in my hive last week. It was just a little too thick to let the inner cover sit down tight against the super - I had to press it a little, and felt it give (like play-dough squishing).

Was this right? Do I need a shim when I use pollen patties?

Thanks - Steven

That's nice. A pollen patty store ? I'll take 100 to go....

Why not just place them through the hive entrance or a covered area outside the hive ? Do the instructions say to put there ?

Here's what I would do: Hold on to those patties until winter then put one in the hive entrance and wait. See how long it takes them to clean it up. Then add another when done.

Patties. That's a great idea.

I often shim when using patties. Sometime, they don't like the extra space but it's typically not a problem going into winter. If I roll my own patties, I just make them thin to avoid using a shim. The store bought ones either get squished or I make space for them.

Someone would analyze your secret ingredients and then the jig would be up.

He's jigin. Balco can't figure his secret.

Steven,

I just mash it out some. Cut and trim if (I have to make it for bee space). Top on with a cinder block does tha trick.
