SHB trap & Boric Acid?

I've made some of the homemade SHB traps with corrugated plastic with crisco holding the boric acid in. Then it dawned on me. Will the boric acid that has spilled/stuck to the outside of the trap harm the bees?

yes may not be a problem depending on how much

I usually cut a v in the center of mine, fill, and tape over. Takes more time but reduces spillage on outside of trap.
