Think i have the SHB under control or at least somewhat restrained. I opened up a capped cell to have a look see. Pulled out the larvae and it had 2 mites on it and 3 more inside the cell!

Thought of getting a bellows to blow powdered sugar into the hive but will this not just attract ants? (if it ain't one thing its ten)
What about fogging with FGMO? How well does it work? (wanting to stay away from chemicals in the hive and still have healthy bees)

The hive appears strong. Unfortunately I moved a brood frame to a swarm hive to give it a boost before I found the mites. THey probably had em already.

What to do??

Any and all opinions appreciated.

FGMO works as does sugar. Neither is a complete solution but they'll help by knocking down some mites. Drone brood frames, properly timed, also help. You could look at one of the stronger but natural solutions such as a formic acid pad that is a whole lot more effective than FGMO or sugar. In my opinion, any mite solution should be part of a larger strategy to manage pests in a colony. I personally do not believe in any single approach, especially natural ones.

Finally, I'd like to recommend that you do a drop count or two before you treat. It's nice to baseline your problem as you begin to treat. Frankly, I believe that knowing how your efforts are making a difference helps keep you motivated.
