Thought I would try drone comb along w/ the screened bottom bomb. Froze a frame of capped comb and pulled out several (10-12) pupae in various stages of development looking for varroa. Didn't see any. Should I be able to see any evidence of mites, or are they in a stage of development not visible to naked eye. Or do I not have a mite problem/ pulled out too few pupae? The developing pupae all looked normal to me. I have not put a sticky board under my screened BB.

Often the varroa stick to the sides of the cells and do not come out with the pupa. Remove a 4 inch square area, put some newspaper on a table and tap the edge of the top bar on the table. This will release any varroa stuck in the cells.

Thanks for the good advice. That frame is back in the hive but I will definitely try your suggestion next time.
