Looking for North Carolina Advice (or similar region)

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to winter a five frame nuc in central North Carolina? If so, how dificult is it?

shouldn't be a problem, many do it much farther north than us....

Planning on doing 100 or so of them myself this fall, so no tips to pass on yet...

Are you going to feed all winter long, or do you think you can get them honey bound enough, and still have enough bees to make it through?

Unless you are feeding all winter I would say good luck.

Afive frame nuc with another five frame nuc on top full of honey should make it fine.

Here in north Arkansas a 5 frame nuc, fed until Oct 15 at which point it would have 3.5 to 4 frames of stores, will survive until the next March 15 before it will starve. I would prefer the 5 frame super configuration because our weather in early spring is so unsettled it is hard to feed syrup.

AR beeks was along my plans... I made up a bunch of divider boards for standard deeps.

My plan is 4 frames of food, and one of bees and the queen. ( alot of bees on that one) the rest of the bees will be kicked out.... Been pondering how to select teh youngest and healthiest, and decided not to loose any sleep over it.
2 nucs per deep, stacked with screen bottom bards, 4-5 deep, 4 stacks per pallet and shielded from the weather.

Put a top feeder on today, and will fill it tonite. I will let you know what transpires. If we have a long fall, they may well end up in ten frames before then, and I will take a super of honey off of the parent hive and give them for winter.
