My hive has had no brood for a almost 6 weeks - the queen they raised did not lay any eggs, new queen introduced a week ago - no eggs today so she must be dead.

Bottom deep is drawn with some honey - brood nest area filled with nectar...top deep is mostly drawn with some honey. I have a strong hive that I can take brood frames from - but is it worth it in July or should I just let them do their thing until there are no bees left? if I requeen - I am thinking I would keep her capped for 3 days and then allow the bees to eat thru the candy - or I could put a frame of nurse bees and brood in a nuc with the queen for 3-4 days and then put the brood, nurse bees and new queen into the hive....not sure what makes sense - this is my first year. What a bummer.

Thanks!

If you are concerned, would it be easier to combine this weak hive with a stronger one and then just split it in the spring? Not sure about the technique involved since I haven't done it myself, but have heard suggestions for combining a hive if it is too weak.

Good luck!

Wait a little longer. The introduced queen might still surprise you, who knows? If she doesn't, uniting it with the stronger hive is good advice. Just open a newspaper on top of the strong hive, cut a few thin slits with your hive tool into the spaces between the frames of the lower super. This will allow the lower queen's pheromones to come up into the "new" addition. They will eat through the paper and unite. Next May, as DebCP wrote, you could divide them and let them raise their own queen.
