Today i was sitting up beside a few of my hives just watching the girls work. I had set at different hives for over 20 minutes when one of my normally docile bees buzzed my beard. I had ate some honey earlier and thought maybe they just smelled it and wanted a taste, but nope not the case, the next time she buzzed me she kissed me. That is kissed me with her stinger right on my lower lip. I have been stung probly 10's of thousands of times over my lifetime but this was the first one on the lip. I have been stung on the eyelids the butt the hands feet fingertips and pretty much everywhere else you could imagine (except the nether regions)but this by far was the wose ever. I normally don't even swell but i almost imediately looked as though i had been hit in the mouth with a baseball bat.

(except the nether regions)

Where I work we refer to this as 'Huevos no buenos', eggs no good. It's not as bad as you might think, as they can only affect the skin. I took a nostril hit once that was much worse.

I have been stung probly 10's of thousands of times
I could be a sign of lowered resistance or worse yet super sensitive.

It's strange how stings work. Last week Mon I was stung 20+ times. It wasn't fun but there was no crazy swelling. Two days later, I took one to the forehead that swelled my face up so badly I looked like the Pillsburgy Dough Boy! Hard to say why each sting can be so different in pain and reaction.

My worst sting ever was on the top of my ear by a yellow jacket:cry:It was the most painful one I ever had. It felt like someone cut off the tip of my ear.
But it did not swell

I had forgotten how bad a longgg red wasp sting is until today. Got it twice on each arm. I can stand bee stings but those wasp must carry much more venom. :lookout:

Worst sting i ever got was pertty much ALL of them. Only been stung 3 or 4 times in 2 years, but they all hurt. My ear was the worst i guess, unless you count the one on my eyelid........that one was a doozy, as well as the one on the back of my neck......ouch.

The oddest one was one that i got on my knee 1/2 hour after coming inside. I had knocked a girl off the leg of my sweatpants, and never evenr thought she had stung, as it turn out I was wrong..........i was sitting on my couch, and rested my arms on my legs, forcing the stinger into my leg....swelled up pretty good and icthed like a SOB........next day, forgetting that the sweats had a stinger in them, i did pretty much the SAME DANG THING, and got another good sting about 2 inches up my leg. Next time i will remember to lose the pants, and clean them well before rewearing them.

Donnie, my guess is it was the beard if they get in your hair your going to get stung.I have a corn field next to some hives and when i'm cultivating it i usually get 1 or 2 in my hair even though i wear a hat ( in there beeline) and they nail me.But they have their job to do and i have mine. Jack

Lots of blood vessels and nerves in the lips (one of the reasons kissing feels so good). That's gotta hurt more than one on the arm.

Last Saturday afternoon I managed to get one on the eyelid just above the eyelashes. Was mowing directly in front of my hives. Usually I wait until later in the day, when the traffic has thinned out, but was catching a break in the rain. And now, with 12 hives, there is a lot more traffic to cross. I just keep my head down, puff on my cigar and plow through them. Normally, they avoid me, but this time one got in my hair. I lifted my head as I brushed her out before she could sting me, and I watched a fully-loaded bomber returning to base fly right into my eye. Got her off my eye directly, but she still got my eyelid. Forgot to remove the stinger for a minute or two, so got a good dose. That night my eye swelled, but by Sunday afternoon it was almost completely normal. Very little itching, too. Over 10 years ago, when I was just starting out, I took a similar sting under similar circumstances (push mower, walked into the flight path) and my eye swelled for several days. Guess getting all those stings over the years has reduced my reaction to bee venom. But, I'm thinking I might keep a pair of safety glasses with the side shields with me when I mow, to put on when I get to the hives. Getting stung on the eye could be problematic.

So, not that I recommend getting stung on the lip again, but I'll bet your reaction would be less the next time.

I got one on the cheek last Sunday. It didn't hurt too much, but the next morning I looked like the creature from "Goonies". Fortunately it passed in a day.

The other day, as a reward for hard work and substitute for no lunch, I gobbled up a nice piece of burr comb laden with honey, only to have my tounge stung. It was an experience!

Like most of you I have been stung more times then I can count. But this last yr they seem to bother me more then ever before. I used to only get red around the sting site and maybe a little puffy but just at the site. Now it seems that when I get stung my whole hand or my whole arm will swell. Not only do I swell but it will hurt for a couple of days.
For this reason I now have to cover up, used to work the hives in what ever I had on.:pinch:

My next to the worst sting was when I stuck my nose near the innercover vent one evening to get a whiff of the goldenrod curing. But how the lid obscured the vision of the innercover hole, I failed to notice the abundance of guard bees hanging out there. One flew up my nose and stung, which got the eyes tearing up pretty good.

The worst sting was when I was testing a hot nuc. I could not believe how hot it was, so one day before work I stopped to do a test to see how many knocks on the side it would take to set it off. It took two knocks, but unfortunately, I didn’t think so many would come out charging, or find me so fast, so I didn’t have any bee gear on. Of the 20 or so stings which I did not mind much, not sure why, but the single sting on the cartilage of the ear about killed me with pain.

I once got a sting on the lower lip and it swelled up like a balloon for 3 days. The relatives nicknamed me Bubba, after Bubba the shrimper on Forrest Gump. ;)

Have been stung on the lip at least 4-5 times this year. Mostly because I forget to zip up my suit and veil.

The stings on the eyelid sound especially painful! I typically don't swell much but I had a sting a while back that was quite swollen; so much that I had my doctor check it out. Good thing too, as it was infected. Now I'm careful to watch for the red streaks zipping out from the sting location. Thanks for sharing the horror stories, it makes me feel better about my little snafu!

Worst stings I ever got was from a yellow jacket's nest I stepped in and didn't know it. I felt something "bite" me, looked down, and I am covered in them. Thing is, my cousins were with me, standing around me, and not one of them got stung. I got hit 10 times all over. That's why when I find a nest of the "yellow devils" in my yard, I can't sleep until I know they're dead and gone. When I find a yellow jacket's nest...I turn into Rambo, lol! :lookout:

That reminds me of when I was a kid. (maybe like 6) I found a big yellow jackets nest in a brush pile. To me at the time it looked like it was glowing.I was completly amazed:Dso I grabed a little stick and started to poke at it:eek:I was completly coverd with bee as I ran into my neihbors house with them all over me.. Next thing I remember I was getting a beeting or atleast to get all the bees off of me. There were about fifty yellow jacket flying in there house :lookout: After there were beet off of me. After all the crying:cry:I think I took about twenty stings that fine day of learning about bees.

Just got one this morning around 6:30AM. Man, it's still hurting bad. :pinch: On the finger tip. Tried icing it and put on some cortizone cream. No help. Finger has swollen up big time and that's what probably is making it hurt so bad.

I get stung a lot. But this is one of the most painful. Even stings on the lip don't compare to this!!!!!! :(

I HATE GETTING STUNG ON THE FINGER TIP!!!!!!!!!!!

While living in Northern Wisconsin I was throwing a stick for my black lab. I was tossing this in the woods and he was doing great retrieves. On the last throw he came out of the woods without the stick. I began to yell at him to go get it and he refused. I went in to get the stick and put my foot right into the side of a bald face hornets nest. This is the big paper nest, it was built right on the ground. I took 17 stings as I ran across the yard yelling, pulling off my shirt and swatting with it. The dog was barking and chasing me and my wife, inside, got a good laugh! I have to say it hurt pretty good for a couple of days. The dog apparently was a lot smarter than his owner!
