Hello all!

I have a hive that i started from a nuk. It has done very well this year!! They are russian and the queen was new this year (so says the person who sold me the nuk). Should I requeen this hive now? in a couple weeks/month? Or let her go next year too?

Second quesitons:
I have two hives. The strong one mentioned above and a weaker one. The weaker one swarmed in May and they just have not been as gang buster as my first hive. I have noticed durring the day there is a bit of bearding and in the early evening there is a TON or bearding. I checked the hive this morning, there is a queen laying as I see brood at all stages. Quesiton is why is this hive bearding so much more than my "strong" hive?

thanks all for the help!!

I wouldn't re-queen your hive that started as a nuc. I believe that it's too early and if the queen is doing well, you can wait.

Bearding is often a sign of space problems or ventilation issues. You might double check space and prop the top. I have one hive of carni's that has plenty of space and ventilation but they just like to beard.

If the hive has a good brood pattern without many empty cells the queen is OK. Why do you like to put a new queen in the hive? What is the reason, don’t you like the dark Caucasian queen?

Caucasian bees often have a smaller colony than the Lingustica; they are both gentle bees and good to work with, especially for beginners.

If you mix the races you might end up with a nasty bee.

The pure Caucasian is a dark bee without any yellow ring; the Lingustica is a total yellow bee. The mixed bees has one or two yellow and than black rings.
