Caught a swarm today and realized what a great tool an extendable roof shovel can be when getting those high up out of reach swarms. Todays was way up I guess 20+ feet and out of reach for a safe climb and cut. At first I tried to shoot the branch with my air rifle but the scope was out of adjustment-thats when I got the idea of using my roof shovel. The one I have extends to around 16 feet -climbed the ladder and hooked the shovel around the branch and jerked it to drop the cluster. This was a pretty big one and the impact sound from them falling that far had me wishing for my video camera. The cluster landed a foot from where I had placed a deep super and BB. I was glad they didnt land directly on the box because it wouldve been a harder landing then the grass I think. After they all went in there was a circle of dead bees left from the impact.

Sometimes referred around here as a "roof rake". When snow build up on your roof you can reach up from the ground and pull it off the roof. Helps keep to much weight from accumulating on the roof. http://www.rittenhouse.ca/asp/Product.asp?PG=381

I live in an area known to get a bit of snow. When the tourons that come north to ski at the nearby slopes ask me if I ski since I live here full time, I answer that I prefer the quiet solitude of snow-shoeing the back country trails.

That's true enough, but in reality, I spend my free time shovelling snow off the roof.
