I was harvesting honey today in a very good yard, 3 plus suppers harvested so far from each colony.
One hive had an inch of dead bees in front and the bees were acting weird, they were shaking.
Judging from the decay, the bees in front of the hive were dead for over a week.
No other hives had any problems.
Poisoning was my first thought but that normally happens more than one hive and the shaking bees... Nosema? I did not see any crowing bees in front of the hives.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

Gilman,

3+ supers from each??

I'm jealous........

CT or NY

I had some like that but most were not.The dry areas did well.Good Black locust.

Not a clue what your problem is.I'm glad it's only one hive.

Hi Jack,
that yard is in CT/NY border. Very good yard year after year. Great for overwintering.
That was only one hive but I am still worried.

Dead bees? You might be seeing the effect of a high forager population working themselves to death on strong flow, then the dead bees just piling up. As for the shaking, its possible that they simply got into some sticky pollen, and are tying to shake it off their hairs.

However it could be something else. Go back to the hive and use a digital camera to take video of what they are doing if they are still doing it. Then upload it. Enough beekeepers would take a look and someone will probably know what they are doing, or maybe even what they were exposed to if they were exposed.

I've seen the same thing over the past few years. I thought it was probably one of the paralysis diseases. Those are the exact symptoms. Pile of dead bees out front, some shaking and trembling.

Some colonies recovered, some didn't.
