I am going to combine a nuc with another hive that needs a queen. I have a board with a hole cut in it the size of the nuc. and will put newspaper under the nuc and place it on top of the hive. How many sheets thick should it be? Also, do I give the nuc an entrance?
Thanks

I've done exactly what you are describing. I used one sheet of newspaper with some holes in it. I put the newspaper on the grass and stuck it with a full row of my uncapping fork. It perforates for decent airflow it but not enough to let a bee pass. I've capped the nuc entrance and other times when it's too hot I've left it open. It seems to take them a little longer (additional 3 to 5 days) if the nuc has an entrance but the result was the same. The queenless hive seems to accept them quickly.
