Sun or shade?

is it better to put the hive box in direct sun (east/west exposure) or indirect with more shade (north/south exposure)? i live in Los Angeles so the temp swings aren't all that severe. This is my first hive...and i'd rather not kill the bees or have them leave...

Hi, I am from Michigan. My father and I have eight hives. Some are in the shade and some are not, tempature may reach a high of 90 degrees. Usually if the hive becomes too hot, they will hang out on the front porch( al lot of em)

in your part of teh country I would stick with shade.....

Find out if there are small hive beetles in your area. If there are, full sun.
