I would like to thank all you guys for posting such helpful information for us newbies and taking time in PM, post, and even phone calls to help us out! You guys have inspired me in more ways than one and it has been such an enjoyable start to my new addiction! I went into the hive yesterday and found some cool stuff.. following advice and tips from you guys this is what happened..

I had one hive that didn't seem to be doing all that great and one that was doing really well... all from packages installed Early April....a couple weeks ago, the strong one needed a 3rd super and I added it.. the weaker was a little agressive when I opened it and they were doing pretty well by then to and had just about filled their 1st super and I had added them one a week or so earlier.. I was out of foundation so I glued popsicle sticks in the frames and was going to attempt foundationless just to see what they would do. After adding the third to the strong hive.. I couldn't wait to see so 3 days later I went back in.. they were drawing some and the other hive still not drawing foundationless..... so I took half the frames from each (remembering what Michael and others had said about giving them a guide) and placed everyother one foundationless in both supers. Yesterday... I have new foundationless comb in the weaker hive and they have calmed considerably when I opened them up!! Without the information found here.. I would have been lost as to what, and why things were happening the way they were. You should all be proud of the inspiration and fountain of knowledge you give out daily!!:applause: I am a member of another forum that I enjoy much.. but most of the time its just mindless drivel and general talk and I have met many friends there! But this place is really something special, and just think of the lives you all have touched that you've never ever heard from!

Thanks again.. from a newbie vaccume mind full of mush! Someday I will contribute something usefull to this forum as well!

Welcome, Bitterroot!

Ah, you have discovered the real secret of BeeSource. The generosity of posters and contributors.

I never come here without discovering something new, even if it is only a joke in the Coffee Klatch, or another pov in Tailgater.

Sharing your observations is valuable, too. Many times, others of us have made similar observations and have not gotten around to asking questions yet. When someone answers your post, it helps all of us.

Enjoy your new vocation.

Regards
Summer

I is ain't I? :gh: Hope your well Redneck 2.. the swarm hive is doing very well too!! But I am amazed at the Spencer (package) hive and adding the 3rd super.. I just don't know when the flow is gonna putter out down here! Some say it's over.. some say wait till mid August to harvest..Just walkin the hallways lookin for the next class! I guess just keep watchin and when they stop growin.. grab it? I'm gonna leave one full super for each hive and take what I can above that. If its just a partial..I may leave that too.

I am jealous !

My package bees were installed on 5/18. They are having lots of babies and there are eggs and larva and pupa, but once the babies started coming, the wax building seemed to slow down to almost a standstill. There is a little honey on the foundations, around the brood. And one side of a foundation has pollen, with other pollen here and there on the other foundations. I am jealous because I have no foundations of honey at all. I did install a medium super just waiting, but nothing yet. I added sugar water, too, just hoping.

I know they will do what they want, but I am concerned that they won't make honey to get them through the winter.

I am in New York.

not sure about the flow up there..but down here it is predominately in may.. It seems to be dwindling here and I am not sure how much more they will draw out. I'm gonna keep giving them room until it becomes obvious they no longer intend to use it. Then I'll cut back and rob what I comfortalbly can.. and leave the rest for my gals!
