If all things are in favor for the virgin to mate on time, how long before she starts to lay eggs?
If she is mated how long before she starts to lay eggs?

I ask because as we were going through our hives, realized it must have superceded a queen that was put in the hive on may 24th. As we put the hive together, hubby found what looked to be a virgin on a frame that was in the bee yard. We assumed it was from this hive. Reason being when hubby openned the hive there was a bit of a war going on with a few bees. Any ways, we took this frame and placed it on the hive top bars (?) The bees from the hive did not attack her, smelt her cleaned her and walked away. As she entered the hive frames from the top no one bothered her.

i would like to split this hive because there are bees everywhere. It is huge. I have a few extra queens and figure to use them up. But i do not want to disturb this hive too soon. I also want to be able to find this queen in short order when splitting the hive.

Opinions please and thanks.

Thank you, added that site to favorites.

No eggs, larva or brood in either hive. I think all but a few drone cells have hatched. So by that math she should be laying soon.

Thanks again
