Maybe this has been done, maybe it has not. I figured it would be a sticky if it had been done. This would be helpful to us newbies.
I've read First Lessons in beekeeping by Delaplane.
Please post other good reads.

I loved "The Backyard Beekeeper" by Kim Flottum. It made even more sense after I started physically keeping bees. I found a lot of the answers to my novice questions and constantly refer to it. Especially helpful is the section on diseases and pests complete with clear pictures.
Happy reading! :)

Ahh, so many good books out there, but definitely you want to have in your collection the abc and xyz of beeculture, 2 quick read books and very informative are Increase essentials & Bee sex essentials both by Larry J. Connor can be ordered from www.wicwas.com while there look around for other gems. This should get you started.

Just finished reading Increase Essentials by Lawrence John Connor.
By far the best book for beekeepers I have read todate. Its well written, great explanations and covers a lot of ground. I think new and old beekeepers alike would get a lot out of this book.
Cheapest place to get it is from the publisher, www.wicwas.com
Only $18 which included postage.

The How-To-Do-It book of Beekeeping by Richard Taylor. Excellent book! Very easy to read without going on and on and boring the reader. Straight and to the point.

I'll second, third and forth Taylor's book. Still the best book WRT practical advice on ANY hobby/activity I have ever read. Have both ABC/XYZ and The Hive and The honeybee as references, too, as well as a bunch of others including:
Beekeeping: A Practical Guide, and
Hive Management: A Seasonal Guide for Beekeepers
both by Richard Bonny and very readable.
This list has already proven to be very useful for me. I've been looking for a good book on sex (that didn't come out right), so I went to the wicwas link and picked up Connor's 'Bee Sex Essentials' and, while I was there, his 'Increase Essentials', too.
Books about bees are kind of like bee hives, you can never have too many.

The Queen and I by Edward Weiss is one to read if you can find it. It's a story of a beekeeper and his mentor that isn't in the normal refrence book format. And the standard beekeeping book is The Hive and The Honeybee. I have 2 diffrent copies of it one my parents bought me around 1979 and another I just bought. The oldest of my Hive and Honeybee books looks some what like a college book with all the highlighting that has been done in it. I have lots of beekeeping books but these are two of my favorites.

The Buzz About Bees: Biology of a Superorganism
by Jurgen Tautz
A very good book about bee biology and the colony as a "superorganism". It has a lot of great color photos and is based on some of the latest research. It is not a bee management book - but it has become my new favorite.

The Backyard Beekeeper: An Absolute Beginner's Guide to Keeping Bees in Your Yard and Garden by Kim Flottum - One of my most enjoyable reads about beekeeping
The Buzz about Bees: Biology of a Superorganism by Jürgen Tautz - The pictures alone are worth the price
Increase Essentials by Lawrence John Connor - Possibly the most informative book I've read about caring for my bees
Natural Beekeeping: Organic Approaches to Modern Apiculture by Ross Conrad
- Definitely got me started on what I think it the right path to keeping my bees healthy
