Swarm question-

When a hive swarms, how long does the swarm hang around on average before taking off for greener pastures? I had a swarm last year that hung around for 4 days, and I had a swarm this morning that hung around for less than three hours. Any rhyme or reason to this? (and yes, I have a swarm trap out. As of noon today. Waaay too late!)


I'd also like to know why it is that everytime one of my hives swarm, the swarm settles 80-90 feet up a fir tree?! Do they hate me?

A swarm will only wait as long as it takes for the scout bees to find a suitable place to build a new colony.
