My book says not to inspect if it is windy... Why is that? The way the weather has been here lately I may have to open it up anyway. It has been a week since putting new bees in hive and I really want to check them out. Should I wait?

Thanks for advice...

Bees get pretty defensive when it's windy. It blows away the smoke and the worker bees aren't out foraging so they're hme do defend against intruders. The worst inspection I've had was my first. I believe it was because of my inexperience but also because it was way too windy. Don't be surprised if they don't great you warmly. I could be wrong, but if they aren't flying and the gusts are over 20 mph I try to avoid disturbing them

I would never get to do hive inspections if I waited for no wind!! I say go for it....get in there and see what is going on!

back when I had more leisure and only a few hives, that was good advice. I have to inspect when I can get the time to do it and I can't really take the wind into account. Besides the last calm day we had was back in 2004 on a Wednesday in August.
