The camera was a simple point-and-shoot, set to "idiot mode". Just got the camera yesterday. I just put the camera next to the bee and pushed the button. Have no clue what the settings were. Believe it or not, I think that picture was the first I took with the camera.
Those interested the camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3.

Nice Macro shot, good depth of field and all. you may have just been the catalyst for me to go buy a new battery for my 300D. I used to do a lot of photography. Never thought of rekindling it with my bee's.

That was so good that I replaced my current bee photo on my desktop wallpaper to this. I work in the security business so last weekend for the heck of it, I set up a high definition video camera mounted on a tripod and aimed at front entrance to my hives and recorded 8 hours a day for two days on a time delay VHF recorder. It was a trip replaying on my television and seeing when they were most active, as well as pollen count.About 3:30 pm each day a massive increase in bees emerging from the hive, doing thier orientation flight and then returning to the hive. That last about 30 minutes.:applause:

I thought so too, then I started thinking, if a bee were out foraging, they wouldn't look as nice. This bee looks brand-spanking new. Her wings are perfect! She is still fuzzy everywhere.
An old forager wouldn't look half as nice.

Guys, enjoy the pic. Copy for personal use as you wish. Maybe I'll make the cover of Bee Culture ;)
By the way, if anyone want's the whole 10 megapixel picture for personal use, let me know. You're just looking at a portion of the picture that has been reduced in quality in an attempt to get the mods to keep it posted (didn't work).
