So could I take a 5 frame nuc, smear a little lemongrass in it with 5 frames w/o comb, and expect to catch any bees? I'm trying for some feral bees in my area. Thanks in advance.

Bee best to put some drawn comb of some type in there. Darker and older the better. :D
Is the nuc used and have bee smell?
Can try melting and rubbing some beeswax around inside of hive and bottom board.
2-3 drops of lgo lasts ~1month. ;)

Can give it a try, even with lure, comb and lgo, it is always a gamble.
I have had luck with using single deeps vs a nuc. The bees are usually looking for something on the size of a single deep.
Check it every week or so, if you see a group of bees "orientating" and "mini-swarming" watch for a real swarm to bee moving in soon!
Good luck, bee careful and have fun!

Old used comb is best, place box at 10 feet high face south.= catch swarm!

I agree with Bob, I think height is more important than box size. I catch all of my swarms with 5 frame boxes. Old comb helps alot. I use 2 frames of drawn comb and 3 foundationless frames.
