Lots of activity in the new hives. Every time I go out and watch I seem to see some one on one fighting in front of the entry to one of them. Any thoughts?

Probably bees that just read Tailgator :). Actually it may be robbing scouts trying to gain entry to the colony; unless the colony is weak it's normal and not much to worry about, especially if it's individual bees. If the entrance is wide open and it's a first-year colony, consider reducing the entrance so the guard bees have an easier time guarding.
