Preserving hives made out of cedar???

I am getting ready for my little girls to arrive. My hives are made of cypress not cedar _ thinking of the kids fort I have been building all weekend!!!. Do I need to paint the outside with wood preservative ... I do not want to paint them really. I love the color of the wood. They look so great in the garden! They were a surprise gift from my parents. . . not crazy about cypress but I guess it is okay.

Hives made of cypress are quite durable, just as they are. They weather nicely and last for a very long time, even without paint or preservatives, though some could be used, if so desired.
