I am a second year beekeeper and just recently discovered this forum. It has been such a boon. I appreciate all the information that is posted but especially from the experienced beekeepers who take the time to help those of us who are just getting into this.

This forum encouraged me to try to capture a swarm that I witnessed this morning from the sole hive I started a year ago. A huge swarm probably larger than a basketball. Went into a Scotch Pine tree. Got it to the ground and the bees are now in the process of going into a deep box I baited with scent (maybe lemon oil) given to me by a friend and placed next to the swarm. No drawn comb to use so hoping foundation will do it.

Could this swarm be too big to fit into a deep box? Seems like they will be very crowded from the start but maybe I just don't realize how many bees are in each box on a mature hive.

Where can I get lemon grass oil that is mentioned on this site -- what type store sells it ? Whole Foods?

I got my little jar at the local health food store.
Good luck with the swarm! I'm sure you and it will do fine. I have seen people on here have theirs leave the hive sometimes, but I don't remember that ever happening to me. Must be my good vibes.

Thanks for the store suggestions. I'd rather not have any more swarms but at least I'll be prepared.
