View Full Version : Supers on Top Bar Hives?

I saw pictures a while back somewhere of a TBH with what looked like a Langstroth Super on it. I'm thinking about my cross comb problem and wondering if I could just put a super or two on my hive and then not have to mess with the section that has the cross comb. Or will the bees cross comb the whole hive if I let it go?
Until I did my inspection today, I thought I had read about everything that could possibly go wrong.

Get at least one straight comb at the end of the group of combs. Make a frame, cut a comb and tie it in straight. Then they will start drawing straight comb after that. The sooner the better. Putting a super on will not resolve the fact that they will continue to fill your hive with crooked combs until the last one on the end is straight. Every comb is a repeat of the last. You need the last to be correct. I'd make a set of frames and do a complete cutout, but that's me. At least make ONE frame and get the last comb straight.

Thanks Michael, that's what I figured. I think I was just hoping since I'm a little scared to go messing with their comb.
