Hello

I need some advice on a problem with one of my hives it seems the queen laid brood all in the shallow super that i had on them now they are full. And i placed a super on them on top of the lets say the second brood chambe rwhich is the super how should i go about getting them to draw this out. I am going to have a flow soon and i would like to get some honey from this hive.

I'm not positive if I have it right but it sounds like you added a shallow that the bees turned into a super. Now, you want to add another super but don't want brood and do want honey. If that's the case, you have a couple of choices. You can add an excluder and see if the bees cross it to pull wax and store honey. Sometimes, they struggle to get going. I find that a super of comb or at least some comb makes them more inclined to cross the super. Of course, you can always just toss another super on and let them do as they wish. Perhaps they now have enough brood area and will use the new super for just honey. You can also find the queen and make sure that she's down low in the colony. Then, add an excluder below your shallow that has brood in it. The brood will hatch out and the queen can't get back up there to lay. The soon to be empty comb will probably be used for honey. Honey from comb that had been used for brood...especially only once or so....is fine. There are more choices that others here will suggest. I look at it this way. She needed the space and used it. You didn't have a flow yet so they wouldn't have drawn it out anyway unless they needed to. Bees do what they need to do, even if it's not what we want them to do!

Howdy i do want honey from this hive the super she laid in was from last year as a food chamber to carry them from the winter. And when i checked them thats when i found brood in the super but she was down in the brood chamber and they had plenty of room for more brood i was told to switch the two supers by putting the one with brood on top of the new one and they would draw it out.
