Getting package today!

Heading to R. Weavers to pick up my first package bees and hive them when I get home. Hopefully all goes well. May post a couple of pics this evening when i'm finished hiving them. Beautiful day today in southeast Texas by the way. :thumbsup:

Package is in. All seem to go pretty good. Bees were not to upset from the two and a half hour ride home. All but about two hand fulls of bee ended up in the hive. The rest are clumped up together in the package that is laying at the entrance. Here are some photos if anyone cares to see. I know this is boring stuff to some of the experienced beeks but it is fresh and exciting to me.

Mine are coming from Bee Weaver. I was lazy and am having them shipped. Should arrive tomorrow. :-)

On a quick side note, why did you choose R Weaver over B Weaver?

Thanks for the replies!! The reason I did my own pick-up is because I am going out of town this weekend and that is when my bees were supposed to arrive. The only choices I had were to move my delivery date back to closer to May or pick-up and I could'nt wait 'till May so I drove the two hours up and three hours back. Came back thru Houston on the beltway at 5:30pm traffic was sick.

I guess the really the reasons I choose B. Weaver over R. Weaver is because their write up on their bees sounded like good bees for a beginner and they been in the beekeeping buisness for ever so they must be doing something right.
Also the website was easier to navigate and get an order in and when I called B. Weaver I got hold of someone who was helpful and easy to talk to. Especially for someone who does'nt know much like myself.

I got the All-American breed. The Buckfast from what I have read seem to run a little hot so I stayed away from for now. The All-American is actually an Italian Bee with characteristic I felt would benefit me for starting out.

Were there any attendant in the cage with the queen?

I've never seen one with out them but then again maybe they set them up different in your neck of the woods...

There were no attendants in the queen gage. I have read it's better without them in there anyway. I was fine with the fact I did not need to remove them or at least thinking it would be better for me to remove them.

On another note, something I have noticed today is that when I go to my garden which is about 20-30 feet from my hive I get buzzed off by a guard bee. I have another hive and have'nt had this problem. I hope these new bees are just a little cranky and trying to get settled in. It is cloudy here today and threatning rain so maybe that is the problem.:scratch:
