I think I've really screwed up something with my email program. My computer is 4 years old, an HP Pavilion Slimline s7310 PC. It's been a wonderful little computer up until I monkeyed with it today.

This is what I think I did, and what it caused. Starting today, when I tried to check my email, a window popped up wanting registration product number codes for Microsoft Office 2003. That program was already installed when I bought the computer, and I didn't get the box or any software that had that information. I couldn't proceed to my inbox.

So, since I never used Office, I, in all my intelligence, just decided to uninstall the program. Now, when I try to check my mail, I can't. Was my email program possibly a part of MS Office or something? I have no computer expertise, and no idea where to proceed from here.
Thanks for any advice.

1. You should be able to open "outlook express". That might work. It's located under the start menu programs.

2. Your computer should have come with the software disks for all software installed on it. You can always re-install.

Thanks. If I got the software with it, then I have put it some place it doesn't belong. No surprise.;)

I'll try your suggestions. (once I find where I hid the software.:))

Ouch!!!

Outlook is included with MS office. WAY better than outlook express! You may????? have the office disks with the machine? More likely you have restore disks. You should be able to get it back from system restore if you have it turned on. That would be your easiest way to get it back.

You should be able to get to that by going to start-control panel-system-system restore. Restore the machine to a date and time before you did the un-install.

If it wants the product key/code after you get it back on the machine. You will find a sticker on the back of the machine or with the disks that came with the machine. Don't confuse the Windows product code or key with the Office key.

GOOD LUCK!

hmm,
bad problem, you can probably get outlook back up and running using the comments above but it is going to need to be configured.
you gotta tell it who to get your email from, username, password etc
stuff you may not remember
who was your email provider?
they may have a web interface you use through a web browser that's easier to get working

Most HP's have a second partition on the hard drive that has the restore system on it. there are instructions at boot up and on the HP website on how to get to and use the restore system.
