I installed a 4lb. box of bees on 3 Apr. Checked for queen release three days after, the cage was empty, bees looked happy.
The bees are sucking down a quart of sugar water every day and a half or so and I see several coming back to the hive with pollen.
Took a look in the hive yesterday - was not able to locate the queen and all the comb that had been built (one old frame that already had comb drawn out) was filled with honey and pollen.
Adjacent frames are about half drawn with comb near the top. Did not see any eggs.
Dadants book on First Lessons on Beekeeping says she should be laying eggs after about 10 days.
Should I be concerned just yet, or let things go on?
Is it possible the queen has left the hive?
Thanks,
Steve

Eggs are not easy to see on new comb, and the queen likes to lay on new comb. Also, if the queen has not been laying for a while,it can take her a week or so before she starts doing anything. I would wait another week and see what is going on then.

I'll take another look next weekend.
Did not realize that she only liked laying on new comb. I was actually very concerned that she may have left, but I suppose that if she had left, the bulk of the bees would of gone also.
A friend told me that depending on the time of day the bees were harvested could drastically alter the number of 'house' bees to foragers that I received in my package.
Thanks again!
