We have 3 new hives. Today 2 are very busy buzzing around the entrances and taking syrup back to their hives. One has nearly no activity at the entrance. I opened it up enough to see that they are all balled up and hanging from the topbars in a tight mass. This one with no activity are Italians. One of the other ones is Carniolans and I am not sure what the other one is. It is 53 degrees here today. This inactivity seems strange to me. Should I be worried? We hived them one week ago today and queen was released on Tuesday. This is the first day that anything looked different between this hive and the others. What do you think? Should I do something?

I wouldn't be worried right away at this temperature. Hives have different temperments...

Wait 'til it gets a little warmer.

That's my 2-cents.

Okay, I'll wait.

Thanks,

In Europe that would be funny. :) Bad joke, but still funny.
