I finally got out to take some pictures of the long hive we have in the back yard. Check them out on Flikr.

Congrats, Looks Good!
Gonna have to put up some pics of mine soon. We really are enjoying it. Its a double with Bees in each end. So much easier to work than the 19 Langs we have.:)

Did you take any pictures when your were building the hive? I'd be interested in the dimensions of everything, frame construction, etc. Thanks. Hondo.
No pics when building but here is a link to the CAD plans I made to build by. The only difference is I added an entrance at the other end. Its in Sketchup a free cad program from Google.

Hondo, what I would do as far as construction plans is to look up the dimensions for a regular lang hive body. Then add 1 3/8 inches to the short side of the box for each additional frame you want the hive to hold. If you'd like, I have three brand new assembled ones at home that I would sell. I live 10 minutes west of Danbury, CT (that would put me in North Salem, NY.)

I did not take any pictures during construction of this one. However, I'm going to be building a second one this weekend as I have a package coming. The current one was originally built for the package, however I got an unannounced swarm. :)
I'll be happy to keep a picture record and dimensions of the second one. Also, I learned a lot during construction of the first one so I think this second one will be a much better example.
Do note however, that I cheated on the joinery. I simply butted the boards and glued / screwed them together. I would recommend a box joint or something stronger then what I used. The screw joint is very strong, but I think there are some better options, however at the time I did not have the ability to do a box joint, and I was lazy.

I did butt joints on a few honey supers that I needed in a hurry. I made sure I used crappy, salvaged wood, and didn't spend a lot of time on them, because I knew they weren't going to last forever. The quality of construction didn't warrant paint, either. Now I use only box joints. They take longer to make, but I'll only be making them once! These will get a few good coats of paint before they ever see any water.
