Slumdog Millionaire. Loved it.

Great movie - I'm not so sure it was oscar winning worthy - I think it had a lot to do with introducing the majority of America to how life is/can be in India.

Very good - would recommend it.

The last movie I saw was Duplicity with Clive Owen and Julia Roberts - nicely done - one of those "who is really tricking who" movies - I like this kind of 'Hiest' theme movies and this was a good one.

Again, good movie and would recommend it.

That was the next to the last one that I saw. Maybe I was just tired, but I found my self nodding off during the first half or so. And there was something confusing about the flash backs and forwards. When there are too many of those in a movie it's hard to keep everything straight. Which was perhaps intentional.

How did they know to bug the run down safe house flat(apartment)? Oh, yeah, it's a story. I forgot.

Otherwise pretty good and one that I could take the wife too, if she wanted to see a movie. Not too vulgar or too violent.

Mama Mia

I'm not a big fan of musicals to begin with, but this was one of the most painful I've ever had to sit through. Even with my mother in laws warning about Pierce Brosnan singing in the movie, I was speechless. Mama Mia!

I think it was supposed to be a comedy, but I would prefer to watch the Three Stooges for a laugh.

I usually bite my lip, cave in, and watch a "chick flick" with my wife - just so I can force a "boy movie" on her from time to time, but.........

I couldn't even handle the theatrical trailers for Mama Mia - The wife watched that one by herself in the bedroom - while I watched SportsCenter in the livingroom.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE old MGM musicals, ABBA, and Pierce Brosnan. (Remember Remington Steele? >sigh<)

My taste in humor runs to Bill Cosby, Victor Borge and the Redneck humor guys.

Let me know when, and I'll bring the popcorn -- we can have a musical marathon together.

Last movie I watched was "Two Girls and a Sailor" (1944) with June Allyson, Van Johnson, Jimmy Durante, Gracie Allen, Lena Horne & others. My daughters picked it, one of their favorites. A few nights before that we watched (again) "Words and Music" (1948) with Mickey Rooney & a host of others.

The last movie I watched was called Altered, an alien invasion scary movie. It was actually quite good, a bit in the flavor of Alien and The Thing (both high on my list of all time good films).

Before that I saw Watchmen. It was a very good "make you think" type of movie if and only if you really pay attention. It also helps if you read the Graphic Novel first. ;) I really could have done without the male full frontal nudity, though.

Note: Both these were exceptionally violent films.

The other movie I watched recently will be very good when it comes out.

I never get out to the movies, the last movies I saw in the theatre were
Hairspray which was much better than I thought it would be and the last Batman movie with Heath Ledger which was incredible.

Before that the last movie I saw in the theatre was Chicago several years ago.
My daughter and her boyfriend rented a couple of movies a while back for us to watch, Tropic Thunder and Stepbrothers, both were very funny.

There is a true story that no one ever seems to have heard of that was good is Johah and the Whale with Josh Hartnett.
Its about people who have aspergers and Josh Hartnett plays the real guy Jerry. It was a great movie.

Slingblade really was a great movie, Billybob played that role so well.
His ex was good in Mr and Mrs. Smith too.

Terminator Salvation...climax of the move, the sound cuts out. Five or so minutes later, the entire movie stopped...10 mins later someone finally comes in a says "the projectors broke and done for the night, come get a pass or a refund in the lobby." Told them I wanted both, they said no, so gotta refund. Nice email to corp office, 4 free passes, not bad since it was only me at the movie. Didn't see the third movie you indicated, but you must admire suicide.

I'd rate Gran Torino a 6.5/10 and Seven Pounds a 3.5/10. I guess I have high standards, but morally incomprehensible movies don't get high marks from me. Smith is exemplary in Pursuit of Happyness. I knew what was going on after 20 minutes into Seven Pounds, so it was very dull to me, and mind-boggling why they dragged it into two hours.

On the other hand, the crusty character Clint portrays in Gran Torino is an excellent match. I've always liked him - especially in his westerns. Stupid ending though.

I am a tough reviewer - I might see one movie in the theaters each year. I'll see if I can come up with a few I actually rate high... I have to reach deep into my gray matter.

"Stellar" for Seven Pounds? Uh huh...

I tend to agree with:

It's impossible to talk about the movie without revealing the least little thing about its secret. And the secret is so flimsy, absurd and obvious that, if we write about it at all, you could figure it out from almost the moment the movie starts.

My wife and I actually went to the movies twice in the last month.

The new Star Trek movie was fun, especially if you are of an age that in elementary school you could stay up late on friday and watch Star Trek reruns.

The second movie was called Tulpan, and it is set in Kahzakstan (subtitled) and has the feel of a documentary but is not. I thought it was one of the most original movies I've ever seen. It had such an authentic feel to it that I forgot I was watching fiction at times. In fact, there was one scene where a character helped a sheep deliver a lamb, and it was a real sheep having a real lamb. No special effects. However, it was also a very, very bleak movie about people living in a hard place to live and trying to have a life. Not necessarily uplifting, but more existential with a capital E. My wife tends to get really absorbed in movies, for good or bad, and it was too much for her tastes. She pretty much hated it. This one's not for everybody, but it worked for me.

Here's a review of Tulpan for those who are interested: http://movies.nytimes.com/2009/04/01/movies/01tulp.html

Needless to say, this one's probably not coming to a metroplex near you, but I would look for it on netflix if it seems like something you'd like.

The Forbidden Zone. Weirdest movie I think I've seen.... including Blue Velvet, The Wall, etc. But it had Danny Elfman (this was 1980 before he broke out) as the devil singing a Cab Calloway swinger that was worth the whole thing. Couldn't tell if it was an "art" film or if I just hadn't had enough mead to appreciate it :).

Star Trek rocked.

Not as good as earlier efforts like The Incredibles, but well done! Good voice characterizations by Ed Asner and Christopher Plummer.

The first Bogie and Bacall effort. >sigh< Real smoldering romance, real tough guys, and real class. Those were the days. The only drawback -- I had to explain to my 10 year old that once upon a time, EVERYONE smoked, and didn't think it was bad . . . :D
