Anyone see this movie? I heard good things about it from of all things, a radio commercial about dealing with hard times. But no local store has it here & I don't belong to Netflix. If you've seen it, is it worth searching hard for? I understand it's about a firefighter who is about to give up on his marriage and the trials he goes through at his work and family life.

It is worth it. Check Christian book stores. There's 2 books that go along with the movie.

The Onion AV Club didn't think much of it: http://www.avclub.com/articles/fireproof,2750/
"Fireproof gets hung up in a lot of Promise Keepers hoo-hah about reaffirming marriage as a covenant with God rather than a contract filed at City Hall, but that's just a cover for two fundamental points about the movie: Cameron acts like a childish jerk, even in the reconciliation phase, and the underlying reason is that he—and the movie—hates women. When he consults his father (Harris Malcom) and his mother (Phyllis Malcom) about his failing marriage, he gets so enraged by her attempt to give advice that he kicks her out of the room and consults his father directly."
Haven't seen it myself though.

huh
the point of the movie, is a Christian based movie about marriage and being the covenant with God. It's about two people who are at odds and find their way back together, and the crazy stupid things we do, say act when we are at odds with each other.
And finding a way back through God's grace.
That is the point

The Onion!? Not the place I'd go for a review, not to mention the inappropriate sophomoric replies that follow the review.

They give it a 3.5 out of 10, but I like knowing what I'm getting into before I see a flick.

My take on fireproof. I enjoyed the movie, but you need to know how to look at it. If you saw Facing the Giants you know what to expect as far as the acting you are going to get. If you can 'look past' this low budget acting it is a wonderful film. Giants was I believe the pastor's/producer's 1st, Fireproof his second. It is really helpful for some people with troubled marriages, or who know people with troubled marriages, or are looking to make their already great marriage better. There is a strong Christian theme, so this may, unfortunately, be a hang up for some people. I will admit that I cried during this and Facing the Giants, and my wife and God, I believe, love the fact that my heart has softened some in my short 31 years and 4 years of marriage. If you like the pastor's movies (sorry his name escapes me) I think there are previews for 2 more of his upcoming films one of which I think looks great. He has definately filled a void and hopefully brought Christian films a little more mainstream.
Sorry I'll get off of my soapbox now.

I saw it and liked it very much. The basic lession is; God shows his love for your wife/husband through you, a very big responsibility. Go and watch it, you may love it or hate it but it aint going to kill you.

It is a good movie that deals with some very common marital issues. It does get a little "preachy" in a couple scenes. If you don't get too hung up on that, it's a really good movie that will probably hit home for a very large percentage of married couples. Look at it more as a documentary than a Hollywood love story.

i will be getting married this year and we have been on and off and in court for over 6 years. now with faith and just being patient and FROG.
fully relying on god. wierd term but if i just do whats right we will work it out. I saw this movie with her and it broke me down to see how things can really get out of hand and reflect how we acted towards one another at times we didnt see we were doing mean things. we are going now to a christian marriage councelor and things are going well and we are happy(ier) so to speak. marriage is like good beekeeping. if you dont do the work your girl(s) will leave you. Do the work to make and keep a marriage going and you will be happy. IM not married so i dont know if this is true or makes sense but i know i have lacked the ambition to make the relationship work at times but back to main point.
Im happy this guy is making more movies mainstream.
I was like pffft ya right never catch me in there watching that.
After i saw it i was dumbfounded and told everyone to review and watch it.
She has seen the giants movie but havent seen it yet myself.
Im also a new christian this year and well all things going on it certainly is difficult to get in the word.

Yes sometimes it is hard to develope a habit to get into the word. It is easy to let life take over. But it is amazing that we have such a forgiving God, that He loves us no matter what.

I found a copy, but spare time is minimal this next 10 days, so I will have to postpone watching it. Thanks for your responses. There's an old proverb... 'may you live in interesting times' and I'm living it!

We rented a copy from the local Blockbuster store.

Nearest Blockbuster is 60 miles away - no movie is worth that much gasolene. A local chain can get a copy from another store for me. Thanks!
