View Full Version : Installing Shallow Foundation Without Hooks

I bought some wired, shallow wax foundation yesterday. After looking at it, I realize it does not have hooks on the top (like all other foundation I have every used). The frames its going into have divided bottom bars, so there is no support at the bottom. I was not planning on cross-wiring these frames, since they are shallows. Last year I decided not to cross-wire my shallows, and they were fine as long as the bees got to them fairly quick.

Questions:

1. If I put the wedges on the top bar good and tight, will that be sufficient to keep the foundation from dropping down?

2. Should I go ahead and cross-wire/embed to be safe?

cross wiring would be easier than having it sag and have to redo it .

I agree,- you could try using bobbypins on the sides or pour melted wax in the top bar wedge to help hold it. Jack

When I used to use split bottom bars I nailed them tight together pinching in the foundation.
