I like new gadgets. Especially ones I can waste time and not clean the house with :lookout:

I painted the whole house in epoxy paint and waterproof fixtures. Just take a hose to it now and then!! :D

Well, there is that draw back. :D
Can or do you get the forums here on that thingy? The description I saw said that it was wireless G but that you don't need to find wi-fi spots. That's a little confusing to me  I guess you connect and download what you want and carry it with you?

It is wireless and does not work with wifi. I have gotten on here with it, looks strange and not easy to navigate. To buy books you go to the store on the Kindle and poof they are there. They are also on the Amazon site it you accidently get rid of them or get a new device you can redownload them.

I have the first Kindle and don't know how I ever managed without it. I take it with me everywhere.
Kindle I has the problem of the buttons for turning pages are too easy to hit by accident. Did they fix that?
I thought about getting the new one but once I learned to keep my mitts off the "page turn" button it is fine.
I also heard the new one is larger, not good. But it has an audible reader, which is SO KOOOL!!!
Congratulations on your new toy. You will learn to not hit the back button.

I want one of those so badly. It looks like the new one solves some of the problems that the old one had with hitting buttons by accident and they hold 10 times the books. Looks like something I really just need.

What type of reading are you doing on it. Can you highlight sections of text and put notations in it? I don't read novels but tend to read a lot of technical or how to books and like to mark all over the book. Can you do this and how easy is it to bookmark something and find it again later. Books with pictures or drawings how do they come out?
I know lots and lots of questions.

I have mostly just reading books now. It says you can highlight and take notes, but I have not. Some books are easy to go to chapters and others not so much. I do have the hive and the honey bee on it. Have not gotten to it yet. I don't know if I would like it for textbook kind of things as I remember where something is as much as what it is. Bottom left corner after the ** picture will not help.
My mom has both the first and second. She is getting used to the new buttons, but says that the page turning thing is better.

I go to the library, and they let me borrow books for a period of time. If figure I'm paying taxes to keep the library afloat anyway, so I also take advantage of the inter-library loan service as well. I can go online and reserve books from all over the area. Even beekeeping books! :)
No batteries required. :D And, I use a bookmark to mark my location, and never have hit the back button on a book.

A guy I work with has the Kindle 2. I looked at it, drooled over it online, looked at what books were available for it, and finally decided that I would rather have the real thing (book) in hand. Granted it would be nice to have a copy of The Hive and the Honeybee that did not weigh 25lbs (and thus that I could read on the boat with ease), but I'll survive.
Mapman, I am a also a fan of the local library. So much so that our librarians know me by name! I also make extensive use of interlibrary loan.
I really like gadgets! I am very thankful that my dearly beloved helps me keep my spending in check. Consulting her prior to major purchases (including beekeeping equipment) helps me (and her) to think through whether it's something that we would REALLY need/use. Thankfully, I am ususally able to make good arguments for beekeeping stuff. ;) Ah, the wonders of partnership!

I admit I am totally addicted to my Kindle. I use it every day and love that I can hear about a book and 1 minute later I have it in my hands. Living where I am 50 miles from the nearest bookstore and a day away from anything online, 1 minute is awesome.
It is smaller and lighter than most books so it is easy to carry.
The only drawback and big, if infrequent, irritant I have discovered is illustrations are very poor. I just read "Cane River" which has several photos and genealogy charts and the charts are totally illegible and useless, the pictures not much better.
Other than the illustration drawback, I LOVE it.
I bet within a few years students will have all their textbooks on one of these, so much less to carry! If you look at the most downloaded books, there is already a BIG representation of assigned reading you see in high school and college.

How is it on the eyes? I can look at a paper book much longer than I can stare at a computer screen. The audible reading sounds interesting. I love books on CD.

One of the benefits of the Kindle is the "liquid paper" format, they use. It is just as easy on the eyes as paper, is non glare and the font can be resized to accommodate . The small size of the unit is easy on the wrists as well. The screen is hard so very durable.
I am seriously considering the new release just for the reading capability, we do lots of audio books while driving.
