My black lab is as stupid as he is happy, and hes really danged happy! Tonight I let him out to do his bussiness and when he came back to the house I was greeted with the overwhelmingly pugent oder of SKUNK!! ya know Prarie Kitty, Pole cat, Pepe Le pew. I opened the door just before the perfume hit me and managed to slam the door before he got inside, but not a good dose of the Perfume Au Natureale. So tonight he is chained up outside untill I can get to the store to get some more peroxide to whip up some odor remover. Did I mention how happy my wife and daughters are about the new flavor of air freshener?

I wouldn't bet on it. I knew a couple of dogs that got into a skunk "once". What they learned was that they liked to kill them after that and any time they could find one after that they would dig them out. I think they would have rather gone after skunks than eat after their first encounter.

I don't think they cared less about the odor. Only their human counterparts did. :)

philc,
He may be smarter than you realize. Dogs always know what time it is.

Tomato juice just masks the smell. Here's a thread I started last year on a similar experience with the nasty critter.

I have plenty of peroxide and baking soda on hand - I know that several of my pooches will not remember their episode from last year. Three out of four of my dogs got sprayed last year!

Yaahooo! Our oldest dog got hit by a skunk this morning. Skunk season... You'd think with age they'd learn... Three dogs sprayed last year. Keeping well-stocked with peroxide and soda. :(
