I am going crazy! I can live with bees flying around in my house but not flies. The little monsters just seem to appear out of thin air in the kitchen. Today I mentioned it to a co-worker and he said his attic is full of thousands of flies this year. He then asked me if I had ladybugs earlier also and I did. Has anyone else been cursed this year?

I came home the other day and there were at least 24 good size flies.

You might want to check around and see if a potatoe was consumed by fly maggots.

Hey I have a bag of sprouting potatoes and ran and checked them. Well the wife threw them out a few days ago. The flies have gotten better the last few days but not sure the potatoes were the cause.

We did have a problem with some rats coming in the dog door eating the dog food. Caught a few with traps but they wised up and had to resort to poison. Bad idea. Well got rid of the rats and found some dead ones but I suspect we missed one deep under the kitchen cabinets. That was over two months ago but flies overwinter in cracks and crevasses. With it warming up I guess they have a little more get up and go just like the bees.

Next year I am going to put poison boxes outside before it gets too cold. Get rid of the rats before they decide to get out of the cold.

Yeah, yeah, flies. I hate 'em. I figured it was because I have an old house with a gazillion nooks and crannies. Have never found the source of these disgusting theings, and I'm not sure I want to.

Probably were the potatoes. They do like taters.

No flies up here - yet! Living on a farm, you get used to them in the barn/stable, but when they follow me inside, they are hunted down and terminated. Even with countless fly traps and lime on the manure pile, they were really bad last summer. Swallows had many broods - nature's way of getting even.

Frogs. You need about 10 of these in each room. Then the fly problem will completely disappear.:)

Tokay Gecko (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&newwindow=1&ei=HSekSZS1Ko_ftgeFuqnXBA&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=1&ct=result&cd=1&q=tokay+gecko&spell=1)! They will wipe out all your bugs. They don't like people and will stay out of your way. If you happen across one then they will let you know where they are when you hear them bark at you. :)

Try fly predators. They are a parasitic wasp that lay their eggs in maggots then hatch and destroy it before it can become a fly. You can turn out a few packets a summer and have less flies for less than it would cost to spray. One year I used them in heavy consentrations and didn't have a fly on the place all summer.

If you can sort out what sort of fly they are, that would help work out where they're breeding.

They are bigger than a house fly and smaller than a horse fly and are black. That is all I know. Fewer flies each day though.:)

You forgot "and disgusting." Same as what I've got. And I've got no 'taters. The flies do entertain the cat, however.
